Climbing is one of the most natural forms of locomotion that we humans can do. Early on, we start by climbing over fences or into trees. In the last few decades, it has become a real trend sport, even making it to the Olympics. Not only does it look spectacular, but it's also a lot of fun and is a good full-body workout. We offer two courses in the Neoliet Climbing Gym in Bochum-Riemke as well as an open meeting for students in the climbing Gym Bergwerk in Dortmund-Huckarde.
fA: Technique, Tactics, Mentality
Over the course of ten sessions, this course focuses on climbing technique and climbing-specific training in tactics and mentality. No safety-related content is covered. Prerequisites include a solid command of top-rope belaying techniques and the ability to climb indoor routes rated at least 5 on the UIAA scale. If you have at least one year of top-rope climbing experience and would like to specifically improve your climbing skills, this course is perfect for you. We’ll take an in-depth look at elements of climbing technique and tactics, as well as the mental aspects of sport climbing.
Climbing harnesses and belay devices are provided. Climbing shoes can be rented at the climbing gym for a rental fee.
fA: Lead Climbing
Over five sessions of 2.5 hours each, you’ll learn how to belay and climb lead on artificial climbing walls. Prerequisites include a solid command of top-rope belaying techniques and the ability to climb indoor routes rated at least 5th degree UIAA. Ideally, you should have at least one year of top-rope climbing experience.
In this course, we use only semi-automatic belay devices. Feel free to bring the device you use for top-rope belaying. Additional course topics include equipment knowledge, belaying theory, and climbing techniques.
The first three course sessions focus on learning belaying techniques. Attendance at these sessions is very important—please notify the course instructor if you are unable to attend any of them. At the end of the course, you will be awarded the DAV Lead Climbing Certificate upon passing the exam. If you are unable to attend all sessions, passing the final exam cannot be guaranteed. Climbing harnesses and belay devices will be provided. Climbing shoes can be rented at the climbing gym for a rental fee.
fA: Introduction to Alpine Climbing
In this course, you’ll learn the basics of climbing and belaying on alpine routes equipped with sport climbing protection. Mobile protection devices and advanced alpine techniques are explicitly not covered in this course. We’ll discuss and practice the basic knots and belaying techniques needed for safely climbing multi-pitch routes while on the ground. During the course, the focus is on teaching and reinforcing the material through a series of exercises. The course is supplemented by practical exercises in lead climbing. Prerequisites include a solid command of lead belaying techniques and the ability to climb indoor routes rated at least UIAA 5. Ideally, you should have at least one year of lead climbing experience.
Climbing harnesses and belay devices are provided. Climbing shoes can be rented at the climbing gym for a rental fee.
